It was like a miracle on Sunday night, but it happened. It’s a miracle because one of country music’s legends, who has been virtually unable to speak since suffering a massive stroke three years ago, sang.
Mr. Randy Travis was being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame on Sunday. Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley and Garth Brooks all honored Randy Travis with inspiring stories of how he inspired them AND all three superstars also sang renditions of Randy Travis songs. “Forever and Ever, Amen” and “Three Wooden Crosses” will always be part of us but…what happened next was a complete shock.
Randy’s wife told how she and her husband still sing to each other every day. She said, “Ladies and gentlemen, heroes and friends, today I want to give back to you the voice of Randy Travis.”
An audible gasp filled the room as Travis moved toward the microphone with a broad smile, and he began to sing. Garth Brooks, still on stage, steadied himself and tipped back his head, surely to keep tears from rolling down his cheeks. It wasn’t crisp but it was definitely Randy Travis. And the standing ovation the followed…prepare to be a puddle.
